According to Article 43 of CCMA that is hereby ratified, the Extraordinary Twenty-member Synaxis meets ipso jure twice yearly in Karyes after being formally summoned by the Hiera Koinotis. It consists of the superiors and abbots of the twenty monasteries of Mount Athos. With the exception of judicial power, which is executed as per Article 9 § 3 of the present Legislative Decree, it has the right to vote on regulatory provisions so long as these do not contradict the Constitutional Charter of Mount Athos. These provisions are to be announced to the Governor and ratified by the minister under whose jurisdiction they fall. Matters of a purely spiritual nature, however, are submitted for approval by the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
