Three-day Pilgrimage Tour to Mount Athos

A three-day pilgrimage program to Mount Athos will allow you to cover a great number of monasteries and shrines of the monastic republic in a short period of time. The trip includes a visit to the capital of Mount Athos – Karyes, several monasteries, sketes, as well as the Divine Liturgies and evening prayer services.

A three-day trip to Mount Athos is an opportunity to learn more about the history of the Holy Mountain in a short period of time; to learn about and experience the monastic way of life; to talk with the enlightened monks and Athos elders. Throughout the trip you will be accompanied by an experienced guide, who will also help in communicating with the Holy Mount inhabitants, acting as an interpreter.

For more than a thousand years there has been an unbreakable law in Mount Athos, according to which only men are allowed to set foot on the territory of the monastic republic. Women, unfortunately, cannot participate in the tour, but they can buy it as a gift for their loved ones. Women, however, can take a cruise along Mount Athos shores, where the monks of the Holy Mountain bring the miraculous icons and relics of the saints to the cruise ships.

Arrival

• Meeting at the airport. Transfer to Ouranoupoli
• Hotel accommodation. Leisure time

Day 1

• Meeting with the guide in Ouranoupoli at 7:30 a.m.
• Obtaining of Diamonitirions
• Departure to Athos by speedboat at 8:45 a.m.
• Arrival at the pier of St. Panteleimon monastery

Car transfer to the monasteries:

• Karyes (Mount Athos capital) – "Axion Estin" Icon
• Visiting of the Apostle Andrew skete – The Head of the Apostle Andrew
• Vatopaidi – The Cincture of the Theotokos, the Head of St. John Chrysostom, 7 miraculous icons, including "Joy and Comfort" and "Pantanassa" known for helping cancer patients
• Iviron – the Iviron icon of the Mother of God – spring of the Iviron icon of the Mother of God
• Filotheou – The miraculous icons of Glykophilousa ("Tenderness", or "Sweet Kissing")
• Evening prayer service, meal. Overnight stay in St. Panteleimon monastery

Day 2

After the morning prayer and meal, pilgrimage to monasteries:

• Hilandar (Serbian) – Miracle-working Icon of the Tricherousa ("Theotokos with Three Hands"), Relics of Sava of Serbia (known as Saint Vine healing Infertility)
• Zograf (Bulgarian) – Miraculous Icons of St. George
• Docheiariou – The Miraculous Icon of the Theotokos Gorgoepikoos
• Xenophontos – Miraculous Icons of Theotokos Hodegetria (Guide) and St. George
• St. Panteleimon Monastery – the Icon and Head of Panteleimon the Healer and many other relics
• Evening prayer service, meal. Overnight stay in the monastery

Day 3

After the morning prayer and meal, pilgrimage to monasteries:

• Pantokratoros – Miraculous icon of Herondissa ("Eldress")
• Stavronikita – the Icon of Nicholas the Wonderworker of Myra
• Skete of the Prophet Elijah – The Theotokos of Tikhvin
• Skete of the Theotokos – the miraculous icon of Our Lady of Kazan
• Departure to Ouranoupoli by ferryboat at 15:45
• Transfer to the airport or to Thessaloniki
