The ancient Greeks believed that mint relieved headaches and "refreshed the mind". This opinion is still valid today. The main active ingredients in peppermint essential oil are menthol (alcohol), menthone (ketone) and tannins. Mint leaves also contain vitamins A and C, niacin (vitamin B3), magnesium and iron.
Peppermint has antiseptic, analgesic, neurotoxic and anti-rheumatic effects and inhibits the growth of bacteria and microorganisms, helps digestion, relieves headaches, fights stress and tension and helps fight negative thoughts.
Peppermint tea is recommended to fight indigestion and diarrhea, acting as an antispasmodic; it helps "calm" the stomach and soothe inflammation of the intestines. Peppermint is useful for colds, relieving symptoms of cough and respiratory catarrh. It is also considered to help the liver function properly.
