He was born in Argiroupoli Pontica in 1901 in a pious family. At Holy Baptism, he received the name Athanasius. He lost his parents early and was raised by his grandmother, who blessed him before her death and gave him an icon of the Panagia. Athanasius left his homeland and traveled through the Caucasus, where he met a Tuka who became his patron. Soon, it was revealed to him that he would become a monk. By God's providence, he ended up in Tbilisi, where he became a novice in a monastery dedicated to the Life-Giving Spring. On June 20, 1919, he was tonsured a monk with the name Simeon. During the tonsure, the bells miraculously rang, although this had been forbidden after the 1917 revolution.
Simeon faced persecution, was arrested, and endured torture. Miraculously, he survived a shooting when a bullet ricocheted off the icon he carried on his chest. On September 8, 1925, he was ordained a priest with the name George. Since then, many believers came to him for spiritual counsel, admiring his wisdom.
In 1929, with the help of a pious family, he moved to Greece. From 1930, he lived in the village of Sirsa, and in 1934, he founded the Monastery of the Ascension of the Lord, where he spent the rest of his life. Despite illnesses, he continued to work and care for the poor. He tried to lead a humble life, observing fasting and prayer.
Elder George often spoke about the importance of mercy and helping those in need. He admonished those who showed no care for others and punished for sins, calling for repentance. His prayers brought healing, and many came to him for help. In early 1959, he predicted his death, saying he would depart in four days. On November 4, 1959, he passed away, leaving his spiritual children in sorrow.
After his death, miracles continued to occur related to his prayers. Many were healed and received help by turning to him. His life and ministry became an example of piety and humility for many believers.
