Father Sophronius, in his book "Saint Silouan the Athonite", explains how the young novice Simeon, later called monk Silouan, prayed unceasingly to God and asked for the forgiveness of his sins. One day, after a long and solemn prayer, he went to the vesper in the chapel of Prophet Elijah. There, while he was praying, saying "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner", he had a vision. To the right gate of the church, at the place of the icon of Jesus Christ, he saw the Lord himself surrounded by the light of the Divinity. His soul was filled with unspeakable goodness. It was evidence of the forgiveness of all his sins, as a result of his great faith, humility and unceasing prayer.
The icon depicting the event, represents Jesus Christ walking on the clouds. His right hand blesses the faithful, while with His left hand He holds the Gospel with the text: «Then Jesus said to his disciples: "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it."» (Matthew 16 24-25)
Jesus is clothed in an ochre-colored robe. On His halo, in red letters, it is written "He who is" and "Jesus Christ". In terms of stylistic elements, the icon is identified as a work of the 19th century.
