Saint Blessed Prince Roman of Uglich
Prince Roman built many churches and cared for the poor, creating almshouses and hospices. In 1265, he married princess Alexandra, but they had no children. After the death of his wife and mother, the prince spent his days in solitude, dedicating himself to pious deeds. He passed away on February 3, 1285, and his body was buried in the Transfiguration Cathedral.
Two hundred years later, in 1485, the incorrupt relics of Saint Roman were found, which became a source of miraculous healings. After the events of 1605, when miracles began to occur from his relics, Patriarch Job blessed the writing of a life and canon for Saint Roman. In 1609, during the Lithuanian devastation, the relics of the saint were damaged, but pious devotees gathered them and placed them back in the cathedral.
On this day, the memory of the holy prophetess Anna is also celebrated, who, along with Saint Simeon, met the Lord Jesus in the temple and proclaimed Him the Messiah.
