Venerable Marina and Kyra of Syria
Venerable
The venerable Marinus and Kira came from the city of Beria, from noble parents, but they disregarded their lineage. Having reached the age of maturity, they withdrew outside the city, enclosed a small plot of land, and began to strive in silence, breaking it only once every fifty days. They wore heavy iron chains and endured hunger, taking food only once every forty days. During the worship at the life-giving tomb of the Lord and on their journey to the temple of the holy martyr Thecla, they did not taste food. Having lived such an ascetic life, the holy women passed to eternal life around the year 450.
