There lived a wealthy and God-fearing woman named Iuliana, who, having become a widow with two children, Ioann and Fimistia, hid from the persecutions against Christians. Ioann, receiving advice from a pious man, went to the desert to the Egyptian hermit Pharmufius. He immersed himself in a well filled with snakes and spent forty days in prayer, after which an angel brought him bread. Blessed Ioann, having endured temptations from the devil, steadfastly resisted him, rejecting the deception. Having lived in the well for ten years, he departed to the Lord. The monk Chrisikhius, coming by the guidance of an angel, extracted his body from the well, and at the burial site a date palm grew, yielding fruit. Chrisikhius offered thanks to God for the revelation of the saints.
