Venerable Thalassius, Hermit of Syria
Venerable
Saint Phalassius, in his youth, built himself a dwelling on a mountain and spent 38 years in monastic labors, having neither a cell nor a tent, only a small enclosure made of stones. For his labors, he was granted the gifts of miracles, casting out demons and healing diseases. Once, when he was attacked by a serpent, he was saved by prayer, and the stomach ailment that tormented him was also healed by calling upon the name of God. Many people came to him, wishing to witness his feats, and he did not refuse those who desired to become his companions, building cells for them and distributing food that was brought by his admirers. Saint Phalassius peacefully reposed, completing his life in ascetic deeds.
