Patriarch
Saint Ephraim was a count of Antioch during the reign of the emperors Anastasius and Justin. Gradually, he abandoned worldly life and eventually became Patriarch. He was known for his reverence for God, his mercy, and his compassion toward those in need.
His ascent to the patriarchal throne was regarded as an event accomplished through the Divine Grace. Specifically, during a powerful earthquake, many inhabitants of Antioch lost their lives, including Patriarch Euphrasios. After the catastrophe, Emperor Justin appointed Ephraim as the new patriarch.
The saint showed great zeal for the faith, striving in every possible way to bring people to Christianity. He confronted the heresies of his time and especially Monophysitism, which was spreading throughout the region.
Having dedicated his life to the Church, serving and caring for his flock, Saint Ephraim surrendered himself to God, inheriting the eternal Kingdom.
