Abraham of Galich, also Chukhlomsky or Gorodetsky, the Abbot
Venerable
The venerable father, having kindled a love for God from his youth, came to the great Sergius the miracle worker and received the monastic tonsure. Having been granted the priestly rank, he devoted himself with zeal to monastic struggles. Leaving the monastery of St. Sergius, he withdrew to the desolate places of the Galich land and founded many monasteries there. In one place, near a mountain, he heard a voice calling him to ascend the mountain, where he saw an icon of the Most Holy Theotokos. After building a cell, he long remained in solitude, and then established a monastery, gathering many disciples and striving in fasting and abstinence. Knowing the time of his departure to God, he gathered the brethren, instructed them, and in the year 1375, on July 20, he departed to the eternal abodes. His relics rest in the chapel of the church dedicated to his name.
