Saint Ammon, the hermit of the Caves, lived in the 13th century and was known for his diligent life. By the blessing of the igumen, he visited the Holy Mount Athos and Jerusalem, striving for the life of the great holy fathers. Upon his return, he lived piously and saintly, serving as an example for the elders in monastic life.
Saint Ammon loved poverty and sought to acquire incorruptible treasures in heaven; having secluded himself in a cave, he overcame all enemies through his labors. Having departed to the Lord with his soul, he found eternal rest, and his holy body was laid in the Far Caves.
The memory of the venerable one is celebrated on August 28, as well as on October 4/17, likely on the day of his name day, when the Orthodox Church commemorates Saint Ammon of Egypt, the disciple of Saint Anthony the Great.
