ATHOS.GUIDE is a website of the METAMORPHOSIS NPO non-profit organization; its purpose is to spread the word of God and to promote the spiritual and cultural heritage of Mount Athos. It is one of the means by which we try to bring you closer to the Earthly domain of the Most Holy Theotokos, a unique world treasure and centuries-old ark of Orthodoxy.
The founder and inspirer of the project accompanies pilgrimage groups to Mount Athos himself. He got his theology degree at the School of Theology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He walked all over Mount Athos as a student, so it is no exaggeration to say that he knows every corner of this blessed abode of the Mother of God.
For him, as for all of us, pilgrimage to Mount Holy Mountain is not a job, but another mean for spreading the Holy Word. And ATHOS GUIDE project has arisen from the desire to show Mount Athos to the world.
The purpose of our pilgrimage tours is to get you acquainted with this unique place in a limited period of time. Whether it is your first or hundredth visit, the experience of a pilgrimage to the Holy Mountain is a meaningful and unforgettable experience.
All of our pilgrimage trips are accompanied by experienced guides holding degree in theology & religious studies.
In cooperation with Athonite monasteries, sketes and cells, we provide pilgrims with modern, reliable four-wheel drive vehicles. This makes it much easier to get around Mount Athos for all those who, for whatever reason, cannot take part in the pilgrimage on foot.
In agreement with the Athonite elders, we organize overnight stays in all 20 Orthodox monasteries of Mount Athos, as well as in the sketes and cells.
It is known that only men can visit Mount Athos, but thanks to the great love of the monks of the Holy Mountain for the whole world, for several years now women have also been given the opportunity to get closer to the great shrines of Athos. The monks take the relics and miraculous icons out by boat to the cruising ships. You can find out more about it in the "Mount Athos for women" section.
