Saint Martyr Vasily was born on July 26, 1875, in the village of Goloperovo, Vladimir Province. He graduated from the Vladimir Theological Seminary and became a priest, serving in the church of the village of Goltsovo. He and his wife Klavdiya had three children. In 1929, his property was confiscated, but some belongings were later returned. In the 1930s, he served in the village of Pustoye Rozhdestvo.
In 1937, during his service, Vasily was arrested on the day of the celebration of the icon of the Mother of God “Joy of All Who Sorrow.” He was imprisoned in a jail in Zagorsk. During interrogations, he refused to admit his guilt in anti-Soviet agitation. On November 14, 1937, the NKVD troika sentenced him to execution, and on November 16, he was shot and buried in an unmarked grave at the Butovo firing range.
