Vasily Ozeretskovsky, Presbyter

Saint Martyr Basil was born on 31 December 1885 in the village of Lobanovo. He studied at the Moscow Theological School. From 1904, he served as a cantor and teacher at the local parish school. He was ordained a deacon in 1920 and a priest in 1921. From the early 1930s, he served at the Church of the Nativity of Theotokos in the village of Ivano-Teremets.

On 5 October 1937, he was arrested on charges of disseminating counter-revolutionary propaganda. He never accepted any guilt and rejected all the charges brought against him.

On 17 October, the NKVD troika sentenced him to death. Saint New Martyr Basil was executed on 21 October 1937 and buried in an unmarked grave at the Butovo execution site near Moscow.
