Metropolitan Bishop
Saint Basil of Ostrog, born on December 28, 1610, in the village of Mrkonić, was taught to fast and pray from childhood. He became a monk in the Zavala Monastery, where he received the monastic name Basil. Later, he was ordained as a bishop and became the Metropolitan of Trebinje. His efforts to restore churches and educate the population incited hatred from his enemies. In 1671, he peacefully fell asleep in his cell. His relics are located in the Ostrog Monastery, where countless miracles of healing occur.
