Saint Martyr Vasily was born on March 5, 1885, in the village of Medyany, Vyatka district of Vyatka province. His father served as a psalmist in the Holy Trinity Church, and his mother possessed a beautiful hearing and a good voice. After graduating from the Vyatka Theological Seminary, Vasily got married and was ordained a priest. He served in various churches, including the Annunciation Church in the village of Bobino, where his efforts after the church's closure led to permission for services.
In 1930, Vasily was arrested and sentenced to five years of imprisonment in a concentration camp. He served in various places, including the village of Sushchevo and in the Nikolaev Church in the village of Gubino. In 1937, he was arrested during an agitation against the Soviet government and sentenced to execution. Priest Vasily Agafonikov was shot on December 9, 1937, and buried in an unmarked grave at the Butovo firing range near Moscow.
