Blessed Simon of Yurevets was born in the village of Odelevo to pious parents, Irodion and Maria. From a young age, he took on the feat of foolishness for Christ and went into the forests. He was found by the villagers, who brought him to the priest Joseph. Simon worked hard without taking payment and often prayed in the church. He endured mockery and lived in extreme poverty, having neither shelter nor shoes.
Simon predicted misfortune for the voivode Tretyak Tregub, which led to respect for him. He also foretold a fire in the city, which he stopped by striking the voivode on the cheek. For his pious life, he received the gift of clairvoyance and performed miracles, healing the sick.
Once, he healed the priest Alimpius, who had swallowed a bone. Simon also walked on water, which became known only after his death. Sensing his end, he was beaten by the new voivode Feodor Petelin and, having confessed, surrendered his soul to the Lord. His burial took place on November 4, 1584, in the Bogoyavlensky Monastery.
After his death, many miracles occurred, and in 1619, a church was built over his grave. A woman named Salome was healed by calling upon Simon, and many began to testify to his miracles. In 1635, Patriarch Joseph ordered a reliquary to be built and an icon of the holy servant to be written.
