He was born in 521 in Antioch of Syria and was dedicated to God by a vow of his mother. From an early age, he distinguished himself by strict fasting and saw the Lord several times, who foretold to him his future exploits. At the age of six, he withdrew to a desert mountain, then settled in the monastery of St. John the Stylite, where he ascended the pillar.
At the age of 22, by revelation, he moved to the Divine Mountain and founded a monastery. Having attained a high degree of perfection, he performed miracles, discerned the hidden, and was granted a vision of the Lord. He predicted the capture of Antioch by Khosrow I and an earthquake, healed ailments, and even raised the dead.
By the prayers of the Blessed One, those captured by the Persians were freed, and for three years, the wheat in the monastery granary did not run out. After spending 68 years on the pillar, he reposed in 596.
