Deacon
Deacon Sergey Nikolaevich Astakhov was born on June 5, 1877, in Moscow into a working-class family. He received his education in a folk school. He was married to Anna Nikiforovna, and they had five children. In 1920, he was ordained a subdeacon by His Grace Nikon, Bishop of Bogorodsk, and began serving as a psalmist in the Peter and Paul Church in Lefortovo. From 1921, he started living with his family in the village of Troitskoye-Ratmanovo. On January 22, 1922, he was ordained a deacon. At the end of November 1937, he was arrested on charges of counter-revolutionary agitation and sentenced to 8 years in corrective labor camps. He passed away in the camp on December 31, 1942, at the age of sixty-five. The name of the Holy Martyr Sergey (Astakhov) is included in the Synaxis of New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia.
