In 1937, during the persecution of the Church, the starosta of the Church, Sergey Vedernikov, was arrested. He was born in 1875 in the village of Pogoreloye, Tver Province, into a poor peasant family. Through hard work, he established a manufacturing shop and later engaged in agriculture. In 1928, he was arrested and sentenced to six months of imprisonment in a corrective labor camp, and in 1930, he was exiled to the Urals. Upon returning to his native village, he was elected as the starosta of the Church. In 1937, he was arrested again and on July 28, he was imprisoned in the Zubtsov prison. During the investigation, he was accused of counter-revolutionary propaganda, but he did not confess to any wrongdoing. On September 27, the NKVD Troika sentenced him to execution, which was carried out on October 1, 1937. He was canonized among the ranks of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia in August 2000 for public veneration.
