He was born on July 19, 1759, in Kursk into a pious merchant family. In his childhood, after falling from a bell tower, he remained unharmed by the grace of God. At the age of seventeen, he decided to leave the world and took monastic vows under the name Seraphim. In 1786, he became a hieromonk and began the struggle of hermit life. Blessed Seraphim prayed on a stone for a thousand days and nights, endured attacks from robbers, but was healed by the Mother of God. In 1810, he secluded himself in a cell and was granted the gifts of clairvoyance and miracle-working. On November 25, 1825, the Mother of God appeared to him and permitted him to end his seclusion. Blessed Seraphim began to receive people, comforting and guiding them. He participated in the founding of the Serafimo-Diveyevo Monastery. He died on January 2, 1833, during prayer. Through his prayers, miracles and healings were performed. On July 19, 1903, his relics were discovered and glorified.
Blessed Seraphim left the Church with teachings on Christian life, emphasizing the importance of prayer and humility. He taught that the true goal of Christian life is the acquisition of the Holy Spirit. Blessed Seraphim advised to pray constantly, even in everyday matters, and emphasized the importance of participation in the Sacraments. His life was filled with spiritual joy, and he called everyone to peace and love for one’s neighbor.
