Sarvil and the martyr Vevea
Martyrs
Saint Sarvil, who lived during the reign of Emperor Trajan, was an idolater priest in Edessa, but, taught by a pious Christian bishop, he was baptized along with his sister Vevea. Accused of professing the Christian faith, he was subjected to cruel tortures: he was beaten with rods, raised on the rack, scraped with iron combs, and burned with candles. The saint, praying to God, endured all the sufferings. Vevea, who confessed herself a Christian, was also imprisoned and subjected to torment. Both saints, after terrible tortures, were executed; their heads were cut off. The believers buried their bodies with honors.
