Saint Martyr Romylos lived during the reign of the Emperor Trajan and held the highest noble rank within the imperial court. During a military campaign against foreign tribes, Trajan discovered that among his soldiers there were eleven thousand Christians, who refused to worship the idols. Hoping to force them to renounce Christ, he sent them into exile in Armenia.
As a general, the saint rebuked the emperor for his impiety and openly confessed his faith, declaring that he was ready to die for the Lord. Enraged, Trajan ordered that he be severely beaten and condemned to death. The holy martyr was beheaded, while the Christians who had been taken captive endured cruel tortures. Among them, nine thousand were crucified in the desert near Mount Ararat in Armenia.
