Procopius of Caesarea (Palestine), Reader
Martyr
Saint Procopius was born in Jerusalem and served as a reader in the church of Caesarea. He had the gift of understanding the Scriptures, translated the Holy Scriptures into the Syrian language, and healed those possessed by demons. During a journey to Scythopolis, he read the Word of God and interpreted it. The governor of Caesarea, upon learning about him, ordered his capture during the persecutions of Christians. Procopius refused to offer sacrifices to pagan idols and declared that Christians worship only one God. For this, the governor ordered his head to be cut off. Saint Procopius completed his earthly course and was taken up to heaven, receiving the martyr's crown from Christ God.
