St. Paphnutius was a pious Christian, raising his daughter Euphrosyne. When she turned 18, he intended to marry her off, but Euphrosyne aspired to monasticism.
Having secretly taken the monastic vows, she left home, adopting the guise of the eunuch Izmargad, and came to a male monastery, where she was accepted by the monks. In solitude, she spent 38 years, achieving spiritual perfection.
The father, grieving over the loss of his daughter, conversed with the monk Izmargad, unaware of her secret. Before her death, Euphrosyne revealed her secret to her father and requested that no one but him prepare her body for burial. After her funeral, St. Paphnutius distributed all his possessions to the poor and took on monasticism, striving in the cell of his daughter until his own death.
