Pavel Alexandrovich Dernov was born on January 12, 1870, in the village of Pishtan, Vyatka Province, in the family of a priest. In 1894, he was ordained as a priest and appointed as the rector of the Nativity of the Mother of God Church in Yelabuga, where he sought to cultivate Christian morality in educational institutions.
The sons of Protopriest Pavel: Boris (1897), Grigory (1899), and Semyon (1901) received their education at the Yelabuga Real School. In 1918, during the time of terror, Protopriest Pavel was arrested and executed on February 14. His sons, after searching for their father, were also arrested and executed, confessing the Orthodox faith on the way to their execution.
