Saint Parfeny was born on January 30, 1874, in the village of Ryazantsy, Bogorodsky district of Moscow province. He graduated from the Perervinsky Spiritual School, the Vifanskaya Spiritual Seminary, and the Moscow Spiritual Academy. Since 1901, he served as a psalmist in Moscow churches, and in 1933 he was ordained a priest. In 1935, he began serving in the Mikhailo-Arkhangelsky church in the village of Mikhailovskoye.
In 1938, in the second half of the year, mass arrests began. The priest was arrested on February 15, 1938, based on evidence related to his activities. He was accused of counter-revolutionary activities and spreading slander against the Soviet government. On February 19, 1938, the NKVD troika sentenced him to death by shooting. Priest Parfeny Gruzinov was shot on February 26, 1938, and buried in an unknown common grave at the Butovo firing range near Moscow.
