Saints Nikandr and Ermey, enlightened by the light of Christ's teaching, were appointed to serve by the holy Apostle Titus. They converted many Greeks from pagan delusion to Christ, for which they were captured and brought for interrogation before the governor Livanius. After unsuccessful attempts to turn them away from Christ, Livanius ordered them to be tied to swift horses and dragged along the ground, shedding their blood. Their bodies were covered with wounds, but the Lord strengthened them during their sufferings. In prison, they were tormented by hunger and thirst, but they received heavenly bread and healing. After another interrogation, they were hanged, tortured with iron, and burned with candles, and then thrown into a blazing furnace, where they remained unharmed thanks to the Angel of the Lord. Finally, the torturer ordered iron nails to be driven into their heads, hearts, and bellies, and buried them alive in a pit. Thus, having endured a cruel death, Saints Nikandr and Ermey attained eternal joyful life with the Lord.
