In Egypt, there lived a man named Moses. He had committed murder and had been chased away by his master, eventually becoming the leader of a band of robbers. He committed many crimes and injustices until one day, called by God, he decided to abandon robbery. He went to a monastery, practiced obedience, became a monk, and deeply repented for his former life.
Once, when he settled in a desert cave, he was attacked by robbers. He confronted them and brought them to the monastery, where, with the help of the other monks, he helped free them from their passions. By following his example, they came to know God and were led to repentance.
In his monastic life, the saint struggled against thoughts and temptations that attacked his sould fiercely. He even sought the guidance of Saint Isidore, who taught him to fast and practice self-control. Following his advice, Saint Moses began to spend his nights in prayer, keeping vigil and pleading the Lord. He fought courageously to overcome his carnal desires until, at last, he attained peace and was freed from his passions.
After many years, he was ordained a priest and remained humble until the end of his life. At one point, he prophesied the coming of barbarians. Nevertheless, he remained with the brotherhood. The invaders executed him along with six other martyrs.
The Church celebrates his memory on August 28.
