Saint Michael, of Bulgarian origin, was born in the city of Potuke and was a pious Christian from childhood. At the age of twenty-five, he entered military service and commanded a detachment. During the war with the Ethiopians and the Agarenians, when the Greek army fled, he was not afraid and, praying to God, fought against the enemies, achieving victory with God's help.
After the victory, Michael set out for home, but on the way encountered a monstrous serpent that was devouring people. Hearing the maiden's tale about the evil serpent, he resolved to fight it. Michael, after praying, defeated the serpent but received a wound himself. The townspeople, learning of his feat, welcomed him with gratitude.
After returning home, Saint Michael soon departed to the Lord. Miracles and healings occurred at his grave. Later, during the time of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom, King Kaloyan transferred the relics of Saint Michael to the city of Tarnovo, where they were solemnly welcomed by the patriarch and the citizens.
