The Holy Unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian, natives of Arabia, believing in Christ, healed many sick people without charge by the power of Christ. During the reign of the wicked emperors Diocletian and Maximian, they were captured by the governor Lysias and subjected to cruel tortures for refusing to offer sacrifices to idols. After tortures, they were thrown into the sea, but the angel of the Lord saved them. Then the saints were thrown into the fire, but remained unharmed. The governor, unable to break them, ordered them to be beheaded with a sword. They were buried together with their three brothers – Leontius, Anthimus, and Euprepius. The saints continue to perform miracles and healings even after death. By their prayers, may we receive healing from our spiritual and bodily ailments. Amen.
