Presbyter
During the reign of Emperor Antoninus, a fierce persecution begun in Rome against the Christians. Saint Konkordios, who came from a noble family, was raised by his father Gordianos in the principles of Christianity. As he grew older, he was ordained a deacon by Bishop Pios. Father and son prayed with fervor and continually offered alms. Wanting to avoid the persecutions, Saint Konkordios asked his father for a blessing to travel and find Saint Eutychius. His father agreed, and thus he began his journey.
He found the saint and together they begun a life of asceticism. Through their prayers, they healed the illnesses of people who came to them. When the prefect Torquatos heard of their deeds, he arrested Konkordios and ordered him to offer sacrifice to the gods of the pagans. He refused, declaring that his life belonged only to Christ. Torquatos then commanded that he be severely beaten and thrown into prison. That same night, Saint Eutychius came to Saint Konkordios together with the bishop, who ordained him a priest.
Torquatos summoned Konkordios again and questioned him about his intentions. The saint replied that his life belonged to Christ. A command was then given to be bound to a column and beaten harshly. However, he continued to praise the Lord. The prefect persisted, but the saint steadfastly refused to offer sacrifice to the idols. Torquatos sent him back to prison, with his hands and feet bound with chains.
The saint never lost hope. An angel of the Lord appeared before him and encouraged him to endure. After three days, soldiers were sent to force Konkordios to offer sacrifice. He called upon God and spat in the face of the idol of Zeus. One of the soldiers, enraged, then struck off his head.
The saint’s body was buried near Spoleto. At that place, crowds of people were healed of their illnesses through the prayers of the his holy figure.
