Isaiah, Wonderworker of the Kiev Near Caves

Saint Isaiah, who lived in the 11th – early 12th century, became renowned for his silence and tireless labor, for which he received the title of “the diligent elder.” In the service of the common saints of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, he is called “the dove loving the wilderness.” He is attributed with the gift of extinguishing passionate demonic suggestions. The repose of Saint Isaiah is dated to May 15, 1115. His relics rest in the Antoniev caves or in the Near Caves of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. The life of the saint is not described in the Paterikon, and there is no special service. The celebration is held on May 15/28, September 28/October 11, and on the second week of Great Lent.
