Saint Joannicius, Patriarch of Serbia, was born in the city of Prizren. Initially, he served as a secretary to King Charles of Serbia, and then, starting in 1339, he managed the Church in the rank of archbishop. In 1346, at the request of King Dušan, at the Council of all Serbian archpastors, where the Bulgarian Patriarch was also present, Archbishop Joannicius was elected Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church. He reposed on September 3, 1349, and was buried in the Peć Monastery.
