Martyr John Artemov
Martyr
Martyr John was born on March 25, 1887, in the village of Sanino, Vladimir province. Having received a technical education, he worked as a builder and a specialist in estimates. In 1935, local authorities attempted to close the church in the village, but the believers, including John, protested, and the church was reopened. John assisted the church by gathering funds from Orthodox acquaintances in Moscow. Priests from closed churches lived in his apartment, which attracted the attention of the NKVD. On August 22, 1937, he was arrested and imprisoned in Butyrka prison. On October 7, the NKVD troika sentenced him to execution, and on October 14, 1937, he was shot and buried in an unmarked grave at the Butovo firing range.
