Venerable Fathers John, Moses, Antiochus and Antininus, ascetics of the Syrian Deserts
Venerable
Saint John, a disciple of Saint Limnaeus, spent 25 years on a desolate hill, feeding only on bread and salt, and wore clothing made of sheep's wool, burdening himself with iron chains. He avoided shade and coolness, even cutting down a almond tree that could have sheltered him. Saint Moses, inspired by his feats, also ascended the mountain near the village of Rama.
Saint Antioch, in his old age, built a fence in the desert and lived in it, imitating Saint Anthony, who was also an elder. Both displayed diligence in prayers and fasting, despite their infirmities, and peacefully surrendered their souls to the Lord.
