Saint John Petrovich Pavlovsky was born on 28 January 1876 in the village of Popovonovolotskoye, in the Shenkursk district of the Arkhangelsk region. He was born into the family of a priest.
In 1892, he graduated from the Shenkursk School of Ecclesiastical Studies, while in 1893 he left the first class of the Arkhangelsk Theological Seminary. On 14 August 1893, he was appointed chanter at the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Usti-Kozhvin. On 13 September 1894, he was transferred to the Church of the Saviour in Bakurinskaya. On 19 March 1900, he was ordained deacon, and on 25 August 1912 he was ordained priest at the Church of the Synaxis of the Most Holy Theotokos in Moshyug.
In 1933, the NKVD began investigations against him, although he was not brought to trial at that time. On 30 June 1937, he was arrested. On 16 September, he was sentenced to death. He was executed on 19 December 1937 in the village of Izhma. On 6 October 2001, the Holy Synod recognised him among the saints of the Church.
