Saint John Petrovich Pavlovsky was born on January 28, 1876, in the village of Popovonavolotsk, Shenkursk district of Arkhangelsk province, in the family of a priest. In 1892, he graduated from the Shenkursk Spiritual School, and in 1893, he was dismissed from the 1st class of the Arkhangelsk Theological Seminary. On August 14, 1893, he was appointed a psalmist at the Usty-Kozhvin Peter and Paul Church, and on September 13, 1894, he was transferred to the Bakurinskaya Spasskaya Church. On March 19, 1900, he was ordained a deacon, and on August 25, 1912, he was ordained a priest at the Moshyug Church in honor of the Assembly of the Most Holy Theotokos. In 1933, he was under investigation by the NKVD, but was not brought to trial. On June 30, 1937, he was arrested and sentenced on September 16, 1937, under Article 58.10 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR to the highest measure of punishment. He accepted a martyr's death by shooting on December 19, 1937, in the village of Izhma. The Holy Synod canonized him on October 6, 2001.
