Saint Elias Muromets of the Caves

Venerable Ilya Muromets, of the Caves, was born in Murom and asceticized in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. He reposed around 1188. The Venerable one rests in a prayerful position: "the first three fingers are joined together and extended, while the last two, the ring finger and the little finger, are bent towards the palm." He irresistibly condemns the schism. He was canonized as a locally venerated saint between 1684 and 1690.
