The God-bearing Father Theona labored in the 16th century on Athos in the Pantokrator Monastery, fulfilling the duties of a rotational priest. Desiring to lead a silent life, he became a disciple of the venerable martyr James of Kostur, renowned for his spiritual experience and extraordinary gifts from the Lord. Venerable Theona assisted James in guiding the brethren. When his teacher was captured, his faithful disciple followed him into prison and strengthened him during the trials.
After the martyric repose of Saint James and his two companions, Theona took over the leadership of the community. A year later, the monks relocated to the Athonite monastery of Simonopetra. From there, they went to the village of Galatista near Thessaloniki to restore the Monastery of Saint Anastasia the Deliverer from Potions. Soon, 150 monks were laboring there in communal life.
Theona became the superior of the Monastery of Saint Anastasia the Deliverer from Potions, located near Solun (Thessaloniki), and later was elevated to the metropolitan throne in Solun.
He spent his final years in solitary ascetic labors near the Monastery of Saint Anastasia. He reposed in 1541. His holy relics remain to this day in the Monastery of Saint Anastasia.
