About the place of birth and parents of the venerable Eusebius the hermit, no information has been preserved. He entered a monastery but soon left it and went to the top of a mountain near the village of Asikha, where he built a fence of stones and began to mortify his body. The venerable one wore only leather clothing and fed on fermented peas and beans. Despite his bodily infirmities, he continued his ascetic feats until old age, when he could no longer chew food due to the absence of teeth. Avoiding glory, he went to a nearby monastery, where he arranged a small enclosure and continued his strict life. During the seven weeks of Great Lent, he consumed only 15 figs. The venerable Eusebius lived for over 90 years and after a severe illness departed to the Lord.
On the same day, we commemorate the venerable Paphnutius and his daughter Euphrosyne. Their life is celebrated on the 25th of September.
