Saint Martyr Euphemius of Achinsk (Euphemius Nikitich Goryachev) was born on January 19, 1884, in the village of Nikolobarunki, Penza province, into a poor peasant family. At the age of four, he became an orphan and was taken care of by his sisters.
After finishing school, he worked as a teacher, and in 1911, he entered pastoral courses in Moscow. In March 1912, he was ordained as a priest and served in the church of the village of Novoselovo, and from March 11, 1917, in the Nikolsk church of the village of Bolshoy Uluy, Achinsk district, Yenisei province.
On January 25, 1924, he was deprived of his rank by the Renovationists, but he continued to serve. That same year, he was subjected to a short-term arrest. On April 16, 1925, he resumed his ministry in the Nikolsk church, and on June 26, he was appointed rector of the Trinity Cathedral in Achinsk.
On November 30, 1929, the priest was arrested, and on February 23, 1930, he was sentenced to three years in a corrective labor camp. After his release, he served in the church of the village of Skripachi and in the church of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos in the village of Bey, Khakassia Autonomous Region.
On April 11, 1936, he was arrested again and in August sentenced to three years in a corrective labor camp. On September 1, 1937, he was arrested for the fourth time in the Karaganda corrective labor camp and on September 10 sentenced to execution by shooting. On September 15, 1937, the priest was shot.
He was glorified by the Archdiocesan Jubilee Council of the Russian Orthodox Church in the year 2000.
