During the persecutions against Christians in the reign of Emperor Antoninus, Duke Sebastian arrived in Cappadocia, where he encountered Saint Hermias. The saint was a Christian who had firmly denied to offer sacrifices to the gods of the pagans. With deep faith in Christ, he declared that he would rather suffer for his faith than refuse his Lord. The duke then subjected him to harsh tortures. He threw him into fire and forced him to drink poison, yet the saint miraculously survived from all tortures. A sorcerer who witnessed these wonders came to believe in Christ and got executed for his newfound faith. Saint Hermias continued to endure his torments without feeling pain, while he also healed the blind through his prayers. In the end, he was beheaded, completing his martyrdom for God. His body was buried by faithful Christians in Comana, where many miracles occurred through the presence of his holy relics.
