Blessed Elpidios, being a member of the state council, was subjected to cruel tortures for his faith during the reign of Julian the Apostate. He was tortured by being dressed in a hair shirt with nails, poured with hot water, and drenched in tar. Together with the martyrs Eustochius and Markell, he was tied to wild horses, but they did him no harm. After beatings and tortures, Saint Elpidios was thrown into the fire, where he surrendered his spirit to God. The honorable bodies of the saints were buried on Mount Carmel. Christ appeared to them with Angelic powers, reviving the body of Elpidios, who continued his feats. Upon learning of this, Julian ordered him to be tortured again, but the saint bravely endured all sufferings. As a result of Elpidios' prayers, the idols crumbled to dust, and six thousand pagans converted to the Christian faith. In the end, the saint was thrown into the furnace, where he completed his sufferings.
