Saint David was born in northern Mesopotamia.
From a young age he lived a life of self-control and ascetic struggle, to the point that people regarded him as an angel of the Lord. He lived near the city of Thessaloniki, in a tent he had set up beneath an almond tree. There, he comforted with his wise words all who came to him.
His mind was always focused on God. He was granted the grace of working miracles and became a radiant pillar of the Church. He endured both cold and heat, extinguishing within himself every carnal desire.
Many marveled at the saint for the grace and power of his prayer. After a long ascetic life, he departed peacefully to the Lord.
On the same day, we also commemorate Saint Dionysios, Archbishop of Suzdal, who reposed in the year 1384.
