Saint Martyr Arkady was born on January 22, 1895, in the city of Pereslavl, Yaroslavl province, in the family of a psalmist, Ivan Lobtsov. He received his education at the church-parish school and the Pereslavl Spiritual School. From 1912, he served as a psalmist in the church in the village of Zheroslavskoye. In 1919, he was mobilized into the Red Army, and in 1921 he returned home and resumed serving as a psalmist. In 1922, he was ordained a priest. From 1929, he served in the church in honor of the Georgian Icon of the Mother of God in the village of Yakshino.
In November 1937, he was arrested based on a denunciation and imprisoned in a prison in Serpukhov. On February 11, 1938, the NKVD troika sentenced him to execution. Priest Arkady Lobtsov was shot on February 17, 1938, and buried in an unmarked grave at the Butovo shooting range near Moscow.
