Presbyter
Father Arkady Nikolaevich Garyaev was born in 1879 in the family of a priest. In 1891, he entered the Spiritual School, and in 1894 – the Perm Spiritual Seminary, from which he was dismissed due to illness. From June 30, 1897, he served as a psalmist in the village of Pokrovsk. In 1898, he was transferred to the Holy Trinity Church, and in 1899, he was ordained a subdeacon. In 1905, he was ordained to the diaconate, and later to the priesthood. He served in the Church of Peter and Paul in the village of Petropavlovsk, where he also taught the Law of God in the zemstvo school.
In 1910, he was appointed priest of the Kazan-Bogoroditskaya Church for pastoral care over the Vogul peoples. His service was fraught with difficulties, as he ministered over vast territories, teaching and preaching among the pagans. In 1912, he was transferred to the Nikito-Ivdel Church, and in 1914 – to the village of Borovskoye.
With the onset of the godless authority in 1917, his activities transformed into a confessional one. On July 1, 1918, during the service, he was killed by Red Army soldiers. He was buried on July 11 in the churchyard of the Holy Nicholas Church. In 2002, he was canonized among the ranks of Saints in the Sobor of New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia.
