Presbyter
Saint Martyr Alexander was born on November 22, 1884, in the village of Chernyanka, Kursk province. From childhood, he dreamed of becoming a servant of the Church. In 1896, he graduated from the village school and moved to Kyiv, where he sang in the monastery choir for a long time and studied the church statutes. In 1911, he was ordained as a deacon, and in 1918 — as a priest. He served in the Holy Trinity Church of the village of Olshanka, and then in the Assumption Church of the village of Bolshaya Khalan.
In 1935, he was arrested by the NKVD officers. During the interrogation, the priest confirmed that he was following the instructions of the blessed Vilyamskiy regarding the enhancement of pastoral activity. During the court session, Father Alexander did not admit his guilt, stating that he signed his testimony during the preliminary investigation without reading it.
