Saint Alexander was born in 1870 in the village of Oprosyevo, Pskov province. In 1891, he graduated from the Theological Seminary and was ordained as a deacon, and in 1897 — as a priest. Since 1906, he served in the church of the city of Toropets. On March 19, 1931, he was arrested along with other Orthodox Christians. On April 2, he underwent interrogation, during which he spoke about his family and ministry. Father Alexander was sentenced to three years of exile in Kazakhstan, after which he returned to Toropets and resumed church life. On July 23, 1937, he was arrested again and sentenced to execution on August 31. He was shot on September 4, 1937. He was canonized among the ranks of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia in August 2000.
