Saint Martyr Athinodor, from Syrian Mesopotamia, led a monastic life from a young age. He was captured and brought before the governor of the region, Elevsius, where he confessed Christ and was sentenced to severe tortures. He was stretched between two pillars, burned with flaming candles, had heated iron placed under his armpits, and was pierced in the nostrils with spikes. Then he was spread out on a heated copper board, which miraculously cooled down, and thrown into a heated copper bull. Despite numerous tortures, the saint remained unharmed thanks to the protection of Angels. His miracles led to the conversion of fifty pagans to God, and then another thirty. For this, he was sentenced to be beheaded, but the executioner stumbled and fell, and his hand with the sword was severed from his shoulder. After this, no one dared to approach the saint, and he, after praying, surrendered his spirit to the Lord God around the year 304.
